The investment and management team at Bopa Moruo represents one of the more experienced black private equity teams in South Africa which collectively have over 35 years of private equity experience at market leading private equity firms and over 50 years of financial services experience.

The team has a track record of successful private equity investment management, across a diverse range of industries.

We have a deep understanding of businesses and their leadership teams, the challenges they face and the support they need to achieve their ambitions.

Boitumelo Tlhabanelo

Tumi is a co-founder and co-Managing Partner of Bopa Moruo Private Equity. As a Managing Partner Tumi is responsible for the leadership, management and direction of the investment management activities and operations management activities at Bopa Moruo.

Tumi has extensive experience gained at leading private equity funds operating across Africa. He served as an Investment Professional with Development Partners International, a London based pan-African private equity fund manager. He was previously a Director of Brait Private Equity, and prior to joining Brait, Tumi qualified as a chartered accountant and worked on various statutory audits of leading insurance and industrial companies for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Nthime Khoele

Nthime Khoele is a co-founder and co-Managing Partner of Bopa Moruo Private Equity. As a Managing Partner, Nthime is responsible for the leadership, management and direction of the investment management activities and operations management activities at Bopa Moruo.

Prior to founding Bopa Moruo, he was a director in Brait’s private equity business where he spent a total of 8 years, in two separate periods. Prior to re-joining Brait, Nthime was the Group Treasurer and Head of Corporate Finance, Structured Finance and Investor Relations at South African Airways, where he led the restructuring of SAA’s balance sheet, executing over R4bn of transactions through capital raisings and aircraft refinancings. Prior to SAA, he was a co-founder and Executive Director of Legend Capital, an investment banking advisory services and funds management business that was co-owned by management and African Legend Investment Limited. Nthime started his career at Rand Merchant Bank Asset Management where he was an investment professional and research analyst. Nthime has extensive investment experience, this experience spanning the areas of private equity fund management and corporate finance

Lesego Tlhabanelo

  • B.Com from the University of South Africa (Unisa) | Management Development Programme (MDP) obtained from Manchester Business School and the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

Lesego is a director of Bopa Moruo Projects, where he is responsible for working with investee companies to drive additional value through providing B-BBEE advisory and business development services. Lesego has over 15 years’ experience in senior and executive management roles in human resources and transformation, marketing management, corporate and internal communications, information technology and facilities management at companies including SAIL Group, Dimension Data, IBM South Africa and Ster-Kinekor. He has experience in developing and implementing corporate governance principles and structures, including policies, procedures, and risk management.
Lesego also has experience as an entrepreneur in a variety of small businesses including retail, interior décor, business services, renewable energy and event management.
Lesego currently serves on the Council of Unisa, where he is the deputy chairperson of the HR Committee and a member of the ICT, Finance, and Social & Ethics Committees of Council, as well as on the Council of the Central Johannesburg TVET College, where is chairperson of the Finance Committee, and a member of the Innovation, Linkages and Development Committee.

ANDISWA MJULEKA

  • CFA Charterholder | Chartered Accountant CA (SA) | Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting (UCT) | B.Bus.Sci (Hons) (UCT)

Andiswa is a CFA Charter holder and a qualified CA through Standard Bank’s TOPP programme. She joined the investment team at Bopa Moruo in July 2017. Previously she was an investment associate at Capital Eye Private Equity where her role included deal analysis, execution and monitoring. Prior to that she was a member of the investment team at Pan Africa Private Equity. Andiswa began her career as a sell-side equity analyst at SBG Securities working within the Telecommunications and Media sector team performing quantitative and qualitative research on JSE listed companies.

Nasif Bergstedt

  • B.Bus.Sci (Hons) (UCT)

Nasif began his career at Citigroup Inc. as a graduate within their Corporate Banking unit in Johannesburg. He later joined JP Morgan Chase & Co. within their Treasury unit before transitioning to the buy-side, where he started his career as an Investment Professional at Edge Growth. After two years within the early stage debt and mezzanine space at Edge Growth, Nasif joined the Bopa Moruo deal team in December 2017 to pursue his passion for later-stage buyout and growth equity investments.
